Hemp Fabrics, Bedding and Homeware
Hemp has been used to make the finest quality of fabrics since the first time that humans used plant fibres to make textiles. The soft long strong hemp fibres from the hemp plant's stem can be woven or knitted into beautiful fabrics that have all the attributes of natural materials.
Hemp fabrics come in an immense range of types from heavy duty canvas (the word "canvas" is a derivative of "cannabis" = hemp) to lightweight flowing fabrics.
Hemp fabrics breathe well, wick moisture rapidly and are long-lasting. Hemp fabrics start off feeling good and get better and better with age. The more you wash and use them, the softer and more comfortable they become, without losing their new 'fresh' feel and look.

Hemp has been used for thousands of years as the prefered fabric for clothing and bedding. Traditionally, hemp sheets and bedding were passed on from generation to generation as prized inherited possesions. Sleeping in hemp sheets and with hemp quilt cover is the ultimate in natural luxury. It is like sleeping in freshly laundered bedding every night. Even with heavier duty sheets, you feel cool and comfortable in warm weather because of the breathing and wicking qualities of the hemp fabric. In cooler weather, you feel warm and snug in the natural fibre fabrics.
Hemp combines well with other natural fibres to give a fantastic range of fabrics. We stock fabrics that are pure 100% hemp as well as blended fabrics that combine hemp with cotton, viscose, satin and nettle. We can also source bamboo fabrics with bamboo combined with hemp or cotton.
All our clothes and bedding have been pre-shrunk so that they maintain their correct size and shape throughout their lives. However our fabrics sold by the metre are not pre-shrunk. All fabrics should be given a hot wash (with fabric softener if desired) to ensure that they are fully shrunk. With some of our fabrics you will get up to 5% shrinkage in length in this process. After the initial hot wash your fabric will maintain its size and shape very well. The first wash will also make the fabric a lot softer.
Hemp fabrics will last for many years improving with washing and use.
We have introduced a range of 100% hemp tablecloths and napkins. These soft but strong hemp tablecloths and hemp napkins are made in Nepal. The coloured pattern is achieved using entirely natural plant extract dyes. These are the ultimate in environmentally-friendly homeware.
